Artesania Rinconada
Artesania Rinconada was designed by Jesus & Javier Carbajales, twin brothers who were born in Spain in 1930. They moved to Uruguay in 1936 when the Spanish Civil War disrupted their childhood. They never forgot their artistic roots and began designing small clay figures in a small corner of their home. The name "Artesania Rinconada" is Spanish for "corner art" and is the name of this wonderful collection of their work. Some of the very first pieces of their work date back to the 1960's, but aR was officially launched in 1972.
All Artesania Rinconada figures are individually hand-poured then hand-carved from ceramic clay material. After the first kiln firing they are hand painted with special colors and enamel glazes to complement each individual piece. Each glaze must be re-fired to assure the colors are preserved. Truly a magnificent work of art, the variations are many with no two pieces exactly alike.
